Unique American Landscape

In Maine, you will find all the rugged coastal beauty your heart could desire.  Travel along historic Route 1 and stop along the way for majestic views of one of the most scenic places in America.

Route 1:  Maine Attractions You Must See

Traveling up Maine’s coast is an experience you won’t soon forget. Alternate between Route 1 and Interstate 95 to get where you’re going and see the best of the seaside escapes.

The Southern Maine Coast: Explore Kittery to Orchard Beach

The Southern Maine Coast is where you’ll find beach towns like Kittery, York, Ogunquit, and Kennebunkport. Check out the shore, dip your toes in the coastal waters, stop by museums, and go antiquing.

As you move toward Wells, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach, you’ll find diverse entertainment. Top seaside hotels and restaurants are accompanied by amusement parks and bustling piers. Don’t forget to experience city life in Portland and stop to see the oldest lighthouse, Portland Headlight.

Mid-coast will bring you to charming villages by the sea along with a bevy of lighthouses. Take a boat or schooner ride out into the waters of harbors like Boothbay or Rockport. You can also check out whale watching or lobster boat tours.

Down East

Acadia National Park awaits Down East, which occupies its own island in Maine’s farthest reaches. Here you’ll find scenic trails and mountains along with beaches and lots of opportunities for hiking, biking, and nature-watching. Finally, make your way to Bar Harbor to take in more culture, shopping, and fine dining.

If you will be touring the Maine coast, make sure to stop along the way to stay with us here at Point Lookout.
