Luxury Resort Maine
You’ve spent a lot of time tanning on one of Maine’s many beaches, taking a day or weeklong yachting tour, or fly-fished one of the many lakes or streams. But what you might not realize at first is that another fun-filled activity for you and your spouse to enjoy is an antiquing treasure hunt. There are more than 400 antique shops in the state, many easily accessible from our luxury resort. Maine has three prominent antique trails: The Big Dipper Trail, Downeast Trail, and the South Coast Trail. In any one of them, you could find the new centerpiece furniture or knickknack item to decorate your home.
In addition to the hundreds of antique shops begging to be explored, there are often shows and auctions that go on where you can find real bargains. The Maine Antique Digest is a good place to begin research for all your antique needs. There will also be many brochures, advertisements, or local wisdom from the staff at Point Lookout Resort & Conference Center to be had at the luxury resort. Maine dealers also keep an online directory of all the major shops and events through the Maine Antique Dealers Association or the Maine Antique Dealer Directory. A list of events will also assuredly be available to peruse if you ask the staff at the front desk.
Traveling the antique trails in Maine is also a good way to fit in some other fun vacation activities. The Big Dipper Trail, which begins in historic Bethel, follows the mountains to Oquossoc and then east to Rangeley, and along the way there are numerous opportunities to fish, golf, or hike. The Downeast Trail winds alongside coves, inlets, and beaches, affording views of eagles, birds, and sealife amid shops of handcrafted pottery or textiles and, of course, antiques. The South Coast Trail, boasting the largest amount of antique shops in the state, passes through Oguinquit, Wells, and Kennebunkport and sports breathtaking vistas, homes, and the Cliff Walk in York. And, of course, fresh lobster or delicious restaurants are also prevalent. The area dining around Point Lookout Resort & Conference Center features some of the best food to be had in the state. All are well within a day’s journey of our luxury resort. Maine, like its antique shops, has so many hidden treasures to find on these trails. Searching out and stumbling upon its secrets can result in not only wonderful furniture for your home, but also a lifetime of memories.
